The design of the new public landscape at The Mound was the subject of an open architectural competition held in 1983. Bob Allies and Graham Morrison collaborated on a submission, and their selection as winners led to the formation of the practice in 1984. Intended to provide a more permanent and appropriate solution to the site's growing significance as a public space, our design focused on the inherent characteristics of the site - the topography of the landscape, the setting of the two galleries, the routes that draw people into and across the site, and the relationships between The Mound and the adjacent Princess Street Gardens.
