Plans for this cherished independent establishment in Richmond rework the existing facilities with sensitive interventions to create an accessible and welcoming venue for all. Designs for the former Victorian schoolhouse seeks to improve the quality of the front of house experience, to match the excellence of the well-loved theatre and allow both entrance and auditorium to be fully accessible for the first time. With inclusivity at its heart, the improvements will create a renewed street presence and an inviting entrance sequence reflecting the theatre’s aspiration to challenge, educate and entertain. A single storey foyer with full-height glazing and a metal armature roof creates sightlines to the auditorium, with the buzz of activity activating the street on performance nights.
