Old Oak Common Heritage Study

View all projects

Old Oak Common is one of London's largest development sites. No more than a modest rural location at the beginning of the 20th century, the interwar years saw it transform into a manufacturing hub crammed with factories producing an extraordinary range of industrial and domestic products. Although the factories have today largely closed, the imprint of the area's heyday can still be sensed in its streets and remaining industrial fragments. We were commissioned to uncover a deeper understanding of the area's historical development and significance, to identify and describe historic importance in order to draw up recommendations on how to steward this heritage in the future. The area will be transformed, yet the hope is it will remain grounded in those elements that make it unique.
