Max Kettenacker
Director, CambridgePassionate about developing a strong connection with the city he is working in, Max set up our studio in Cambridge where he feels honoured to work with a talented and hard-working team in a city of incredible beauty and charm.
Max has a comprehensive portfolio of Cambridge-based projects in higher education and student housing. Ash Court, a new-build student accommodation wing at Girton College was groundbreaking for the practice in terms of sustainable design and received numerous awards, while the graduate accommodation for King’s College that Max completed more recently was the first major Passivhaus development in Cambridge. His in-depth knowledge of the University and the City has been instrumental in guiding the masterplans Max has led for several Cambridge Colleges including St John’s, Gonville and Caius, and Trinity, as well as the redevelopment of Old Press/Mill Lane in the heart of Cambridge for the University.
Max is increasingly involved with the design of the high-quality workspace Cambridge needs to meet growing demand. He has led a group of projects that combine pioneering and sustainable new build, with sensitive and thoughtful retrofit.
As an aspiring architect, Max worked in Munich and still reminisces about the time he spent there. He trained at the universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge and is a member of the practice’s Sustainability Group, Student Housing Group and is involved with our charitable and pro-bono work.
